$500 to teach future generations to save?
Greetings from Carlin NV.
I am hearing more about this program to give $500(at this time anyway) to newborns in an account to grow with them and to help teach them the lessons of savings and investment. Although this does sound like a wonderful idae, I have to ask myself, can it really work? How can you teach someone the value of money if you just hand it to them?   Handing out money does not teach responsibility for that money. I find that money I earn means alot to me and I try to be careful how I spend it. Now, one way I do not wish for my hard earned money to be spent is one someone elses future. Sounds harsh maybe, but I have already payed into my own future and now it seems that I won’t be seeing any of that money.
Finally, all this program would teach children is do nothing and expect everything to be handed to them. No value of an honestly earned dollar would be taught.Â
I hope the common sense of Americans will rise up and we will realise that just because something looks good on paper doesn’t mean it will be good in practice.
But what do I know, I’m just a moron, lunkhead truck driver.
